ECC Connection Friday, April 3, 2020 Carol's Corner - A Message from Our Director Dear Parents,
Young children ask question after question as a way of investigating and making sense of their world. They are incredibly curious about everything. When we ask questions, we try to ask open ended questions where your child is compelled to think. As we approach Passover, a holiday that is based on questions, it's a good time to reflect on how we are educating our children. Are we interested in having our child solely hear our answers or are we paying attention to helping them find deep questions? Are we encouraging our children to ask "why," "how," and "what?" The whole night of the Seder is framed by the child initiating a question. And, if the child is shy and may be afraid to ask, the parent encourages the child to simply ask, "Why is this night different from all other nights?" One of the beauties of the Passover holiday is that we have a chance to connect with family. This year will be different and your children will ask why. Why are we not with Grandma and Grandpa, Savta and Saba? We can answer this question in many ways. Ask your child "why do you think that Bubbe and Zeyde are not here?" After listening to your child you can say, "that was a very good answer or tell me more about...or why did you think….?" We encourage you to embrace this time with your children and virtually with your extended family. May the Coronavirus pass over! Stay healthy and we wish that we could all be together for our annual Classroom Seders. Rabbi Ben Naim and Jason Mesches made a beautiful video that follows our Early Childhood Haggadah. HERE is a copy of our updated Haggadah to use for your Seder. The video will be available on our ECC@home page for your Thursday Seder! Warmly,
Carol and the Early Childhood Staff
