ECC Connection Friday, July 10, 2020 Carol's Corner - A Message from Our Director Dear Parents,
A: As we previously stated, we are planning to open school in mid-August. Tuition was calculated based on a September start. There will be no additional tuition charge if we open as planned in August. The additional four weeks of school are a gift, and we are thrilled to be able to open earlier. You may opt for a September start instead as long as you are making tuition payments and have informed us of your intent to start in September.
A: School will not start if it is not safe. That being said, as of today we are planning to open in August. If you decide to start school in October, you will have to start paying tuition in August to hold your space.
Q: What will tuition look like if we are not on Campus? A: If we move to off campus learning for longer than 14 days, Shemesh, Kachol and TK/DK classes will pay tuition at a rate of 50% of the cost for a month (we will take your tuition and figure out the monthly rate and prorate from there). Nitzanim, Lavan and Keshet classes will not pay tuition during the time we are virtual (for longer than 14 days). Upon our return to campus you would again pay full tuition. The contract is for the entire school year.
Q: Was hot lunch included in tuition? Does tuition change now that lunch will be brought from home? A: Tuition payments will be lowered to reflect the change in the hot lunch program.
A: Yes. As long as your child is wearing a mask, they can wear a shield as well.
A: We strive for the majority if not all of the day to take place outdoors.
A: Socialization is our main goal for the school year. While children will not be physically sharing toys, they will be sharing space and sharing ideas. Children will be taking turns during the day with who will be in which play area, waiting for a turn on a swing or bike. They will still be learning social skills as they run, play and giggle outside.
A: The teachers will be focusing on the small groups of children and still maintain a clean environment. We have always cleaned and disinfected in our school, but we will add an additional level. Diaper changing tables were disinfected between children and now the same will be done with toilets. The teachers are used to many of these protocols already. We will find a beautiful way to have our connections with the children stay meaningful. The children are delightful and have so much to share with us everyday!
A: We are trying to put the same age siblings of younger children together and the same age siblings of the older children together in their own class. We may have some classes that are not all siblings. Nothing is definite until we have our final lists of students. The idea is to keep families safer with less exposure as they would only be interacting with 10 families between 2 classes, a younger and an older one.
Q. I heard that I can make some suggestions for pods, is this true? A: You are more than welcome to email me some suggestions for your pod. There are no guarantees, but we will try our best to please everyone to the best of our ability. Please note that you do not have to make a pod and as educators we are happy to do so.
Q: Is there any possibility the teachers will loop for some sense of consistency? A: We are planning to move teachers up whenever possible so children have an easier transition back to school. We want what's best for your child. Our older DK and TK children are less likely to continue with the same teachers.
A: There will be a full program of zoom. The teachers will maintain a sense of routine, beginning with a morning group time, a snack or lunch together, and afternoon small groups. Teachers will incorporate a curriculum that encompases math, literacy, science, art, movement, fine and gross motor development and social emotional development.
A: We are looking into a virtual program for children where families are compromised and it is best to keep children at home. This cohort will have the full Zoom program beginning in September during their school hours. If your child stays until 12:00pm, Zoom will be until 12:00pm. If your child is in DK/ TK or you would like your child to Zoom until 2:30pm, this will also be an option. We will also have Zoom enrichments available. Please email our registrar Felisa Felsenthal at Felisa@wbtla.org to let her know if you would like this option.
Warmly, Carol and the ECC Team
