Caring for Their World

Tikkun olam is a core promise we make to repair the world for our children, our city, and our world.

Developing habits of kindness and responsibility through everyday actions instills the values of tikkun olam in our youngest students.

Teaching Empathy and Action Everyday

At our ECCs, tikkun olam, repairing the world, starts small and feels real. Children practice kindness with classmates, learn simple Hebrew words for values (like tzedakah and kavod), and experience giving through hands-on moments at school and at home. Weekly rhythms (Shabbat songs, blessings, gratitude) make care for others part of everyday life.

For example, each week children bring simple tzedakah to share, then talk together about where the money goes and whom it helps, so generosity feels concrete and connected to real people.

Little Hands Making a Big Difference

Our youngest learners help in age-appropriate ways: sorting, sharing, planting, packing, and thanking. Projects are short, sensory, and concrete so children can see their impact.

For example, classes assemble snack bags for the Karsh Family Social Service Center, counting items, packing them up, and adding notes of thanks. TK and DK students help sort fresh produce for the Karsh food pantry, building empathy and responsibility with every bag they fill. Inspired by Tu BiShvat, children have also hosted a student-led lemonade and brownie stand to raise money to plant trees in Israel, learning teamwork, early literacy, and math along the way.

Living Our Values Through Giving and Service

We connect classroom learning to action using stories, songs, and rituals. Teachers model empathy, name feelings, and guide conflict resolution, linking choices to Jewish values. Families join in through simple at-home prompts and campus-wide drives.
