Early Learning in Action

The preschool years are a time of incredible growth, when curiosity, imagination, and confidence begin to take root. At Wilshire Boulevard Temple’s Early Childhood Centers, children ages 18 months to 4 years thrive in classrooms designed for joyful exploration and guided discovery. With a play-based, developmental curriculum and the warmth of a Jewish community, every day is a chance for your child to grow socially, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually.

Daily Life in Preschool

A typical day at the ECC balances structure with freedom. Children begin their mornings with greetings and circle time, followed by hands-on exploration in learning centers that include art, science, building, dramatic play, and reading. Outdoor play is a vital part of the day, with at least 45 minutes to run, climb, garden, or ride bikes, and more for full-day students. Teachers facilitate small-group activities, autonomy, and co-regulation to build confidence and self-help skills.

Meals are part of the learning experience, too. Each child enjoys a hot lunch cooked fresh on site, along with healthy snacks. These mealtimes become moments to practice independence, table manners, and gratitude.

Building Curiosity, Confidence & Compassion

Our preschool program is inspired by a range of philosophies, including Reggio Emilia, allowing us provide a nurturing environment that blends exploration, independence, and active learning.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, teachers observe and follow children's emerging interests, integrating dramatic play, language/literacy, early mathematics, science, cooking, and art. Social-emotional growth is at the heart of everything: children practice cooperation, conflict resolution, and empathy daily.

In the Classroom

Jewish life is joyfully integrated into classroom routines. Children celebrate Shabbat every Friday, sing blessings before meals, and mark Jewish holidays with hands-on rituals. They begin to absorb values like tikkun olam (repairing the world), tzedakah (charity), and kavod (respect), discovering that learning is as much about who we are as what we know.
